About Midlands Show Society

Background

The Midlands Show Society as it is popularly known has its roots and beginnings in early 1925.  After Zimbabwe International Trade Fair and Harare Agricultural Show, the Midlands Show is the third largest show in the country and is held annually at the end of July.  The Society is managed by an Executive Committee comprising of the Patron, a President, Vice President, a Chairman, Vice Chairman and Committee members who sit regularly to set policy and review business.  A manager is employed to run the day-to-day affairs of the Society.

Historically the Society relied heavily on donations from the public to boost its finances.  Donations dried out some few years ago and the Society took measures to generate funds through sound management and fundraising.  So far, this has proved a success for current expenditure.  However, capital projects are almost impossible to implement this time.

The Midlands Show has become one of Gweru’s most important events.  Our exhibitors are representatives of the Midlands province coming from as far afield as Gokwe, Mberengwa and the surrounding areas.  We have also had exhibitors from Harare, Mutare and Bulawayo.  Recent statistics show that the number of exhibitors has steadily grown from just over 100 in 2000 to around 160   in the year 2024.  An average of   30000 people visit the show.
